Eighth grade U.S. history is a survey of the political, social, economic, and cultural development of the United States from pre-European contact through Reconstruction after the Civil War. The class is designed to provide students with the opportunity to act as historians—working with primary sources and researching many of the topics we examine. The students’ role as historians will be emphasized through group work, written assignments, and historical readings in order for them to begin to see some of the difficulties and rewards of investigating the past.
My seventh grade world geography class is designed to introduce students to the study of geography by presenting the tools, themes, and concepts that underlie how geographers study the world. The class will also explore the various geographic regions of the world. Students will gain a greater awareness of both the physical and human geography of other regions, as well as their own, and will examine regional issues on a global stage in an effort to demonstrate the interdependency among not only regions and specific countries but also people and cultures around the world.
